Esmeralda Santiago - Silicon Valley

Esmeralda Santiago is a client of Phil Lavine and Susan Ng in Silicon Valley.

July 15th, 2011 her newest novel “CONQUISTADORA” was reviewed by the NYT Book Review.

Her website www.esmeraldasantiago.com summarizes her compelling story. ESMERALDA was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She came to the United States at age thirteen.  Ms. Santiago attended New York City’s Performing Arts High School, where she majored in drama and dance. After eight years of part-time study at community colleges, she transferred to Harvard University with a full scholarship. She graduated magna cum laude in 1976. In 1977, she and her husband, Frank Cantor, founded CANTOMEDIA, a film and media production company, which has won numerous awards for excellence in documentary filmmaking.

Her writing career evolved from her work as a producer/writer of documentary and educational films. Her essays and opinion pieces have run in newspapers like the New York Times and the Boston Globe, in magazines like House & Garden, Metropolitan Home, and Sports Illustrated, and as guest commentary on NPR’s All Things Considered and Morning Edition.

Esmeralda Santiago is the author of the acclaimed memoirs “When I Was Puerto Rican”, “Almost a Woman” (which she adapted into a Peabody Award-winning film for PBS Masterpiece Theatre) and “The Turkish Lover”. She is also the author of the novel “América's Dream” which was recently adapted into a film as well. She is the author of the illustrated children's book, “A Doll for Navidades”, and co-editor of the anthologies “Las Christmas: Favorite Latino Authors Share Their Holiday Memories”.

Esmearlda is not only an author; she is also an inspirational speaker and motivator. She lifts up all that know and work with her. She says “Susan and Phil have been great, helping us to feel better organized and less frantic about our responsibilities as small business owners.” It is sheer grit and determination that keep Esmeralda working and touring with each new book release.  While working for William Delahunt, then District Attorney of Norfolk County, MA, Esmeralda was part of a group of women who founded a shelter in Quincy for victims of domestic violence and their children. The DOVE shelter is still providing services to the community.

Esmeralda Santiago has enlightened and encouraged those who she comes in contact with as well as those who read her novels. What a testimonial she is!
