Ghost Golf - Concord, California

Daryn spent the last 33 years in corporate America. When his job was sent to India, He decided to take a chance on himself and start his own business. Ghost Golf had been in his head for years. He had produced several Halloween shows as well as designed and installed special effects for a famous haunted restaurant in the bay area. Daryn always wanted to have a haunted attraction so he designed Ghost Golf to be a haunted graveyard that had a miniature golf course on it.  He opened to the public in October of last year.

Daryn spent the early years of his career with Disneyland in the Animatronics department where he was responsible for all of the Audio-Animatronics figures throughout the park.  Daryn then spent thirty years with AT&T where he was a Senior Technical Director before he retired. His wife, and Ghost Golf business partner Janice Coleman, is primarily responsible for the foliage, sculptures and decorations throughout Ghost Golf. The Haunted Mansion from Disney was their main inspiration as well as “a Disney quality” throughout the environment.

The back-story for the game is that long ago the cemetery had an old caretaker by the name of Jasper.  In order to “kill time”, Jasper set up a putt-putt course among the graves.   The residents of Ghost Golf don't particularly like people playing golf on their graves and will come out to express their unhappiness with the golfers.  There is even rumor of a curse.  Of course Jasper is still around sitting on top of a hearse urging people along as he entertains with his songs!

Daryn met Dan Cunningham at a TSBA function when Dan reached out to Daryn and Janice as a new business.  Since then, Dan has become Ghost Golf’s Small Biz Pro. Dan has led Daryn and Janice through their scary maze of taxes as applications vary from the entertainment they provide to the refreshments that they sell.  Dan worked his magic on all things numbers and freed Daryn and Janice up to be creative. He was able to evaluate tax requirements and scheduling for Ghost Golf in a way that made superb business sense.   Daryn says “I’ve come to depend on Dan because I trust and appreciate his advice.” “Get an accountant early!  Make sure you do your homework about your product and its relevance to the area.  And pray for lots of luck!”

Daryn loves the guests that appreciate the work that went into Ghost Golf and allow themselves to enjoy the show as well as the game. He gets great satisfaction from happy, laughing, screaming return customers…Dan Cunningham feels the same way!
